Prompt 023 - Tower Block

“I’ve never been up in one of these before,” he said over his shoulder.

“Keep leaning over the edge and you won’t be 'up' for long.”

Felix turned and grinned at the woman inside the doorway. These weren’t her tower rooms, just a place one of their friends had rented for conspiratorial purposes. The smell of smoke and bakeries rose in the air around them, pleasant in their own way. Or at least for replacing the smell of the streets. You could actually see the haze over the city.

“Want to join me?” he asked Lenia.

“There isn’t room on that balcony for two.”

“Of course there is.” He pressed up against the wooden side, looked back at her invitingly.

She gave him a level stare. “Maybe when Marcella gets here.”

“As you like.” He shrugged and looked out again. Stratos would love this. Perhaps he could get a block – a cleaner one, without any common people in it. The capital really looked lovely now the sun had broken through.

It was a sight that wouldn’t last, of course. But that was the best kind.
